Museum at Eldridge Street Hours, Admission and Highlights

The Museum at Eldridge Street is in a breathtakingly beautiful synagogue originally constructed in the late 19th century. Its interactive displays help tell the story of the lives of the eastern European immigrants who once worshiped in the synagogue while telling the story of the lives of immigrants in America.
Hours of operation
The museum is open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Fridays, the museum is open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The museum is closed Saturdays as well as on Thanksgiving.
Admission to the museum
Admission to the museum is $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors and $6 for children from 5 to 18 years old. On Mondays, admission is free for groups of up to 6 people.
Highlights of the museum
One of the most memorable highlights of the Museum at Eldridge Street is the fantastic art and architecture of the structure itself. The building, a National Historic Landmark, has undergone a thorough restoration that was capped off by the installation of a beautiful stained glass window designed by artist Kiki Smith and architect Deborah Gans.
The museum's collections
Many of the museum's displays feature items relating to the culture and rituals practiced by generations of the Jews of the Eldridge Street Synagogue since its 1887 founding, including objects used during services at the synagogue and neighboring synagogues. The exhibits in the museum help the visitor understand the life and culture of the community, and how the Eastern European Jewish immigrants came together to form the congregation as they were forming their new lives in America.
The Museum at Eldridge Street is a great destination for learning about the immigrant experience in America and the history of the Jewish experience in the Lower East Side. Whether you come to admire the beautifully-restored structure or participate in the Museum's events, you and your family can enjoy an educational experience at the museum.
